Artist's Statement

A variety of processes, intense color, narrative, grid, and pattern: these are the elements of the art-making process for me. The need to translate thoughts into substantive visual form remains a driving force.

In 2004 I moved from figurative and clearly narrative work to more abstract pieces, discovering that the narrative remains, even in an abstract work. In accepting the abstract narratives, I have found a new freedom.

Today, my work retains a connection to the natural world but includes a freedom of expression that includes the marks made in the process of making. The use of pattern and grid become a visual language through which the “narrative” is expressed.
